Beach City, OH
Wanake Camp and Retreat Center, located in Beach City, Ohio, has a 72 year history of providing action-packed, faith filled experiences for children finishing kindergarten up through teens who have completed 11th grade. Children and teens grow individually and as a team in their skills, faith, decision making, friendship building, and leadership in a well supervised, safety conscious, and encouraging environment. Unique to Wanake is the small group de-centralized model of camping. Small group de-centralized camping allows for children to live in a family-like group with counselors and campers who eat, live, worship, study, work and play together in a Christ centered environment situated in the out-of-doors. This allows for deep, meaningful bonding, learning, and relationship building; positioning campers for life-long success.
Campers have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities ranging from Bible study, swimming in the pool, horseback riding at the ranch, canoeing on Lake Arnold, cooking over campfires, hiking in the out-of-doors, participating in camper leadership, rock climbing at the indoor wall or the forty-six foot climbing tower, and taking on the challenge course. Children of all ages are able to grow in relationship with themselves, peers, counselors, and Jesus. The camp experience has the power to last a lifetime. Emerging and past research shows that the power of camp allows children to develop independence, emotional regulation, self-confidence, perseverance, empathy, and appreciation for diversity. The proven and transformational power of camp helps children acquire and use these skills in practice, first at camp, then at home, followed by academic performance and further on into adulthood and career success.
Meals are hot, healthy and delicious; Breakfasts are accompanied by a yogurt bar including Wanake’s home-made granola and fresh fruit. Lunches and Dinners are served alongside a salad bar that features a wide variety of fresh vegetables, eggs, cheeses, and home-made croutons. Wanake’s Kitchen makes a concerted effort to cater to a wide variety of special diets with the salad bar designed to supplement. Campers cook two or three of their own meals over a campfire during a week of camp. Lodging options range from air-conditioned retreat centers, to cabins with electricity, to the survival cabin (no electricity), and the rock lodge- a tree house where campers sleep in hanging beds surrounded by the tree canopy! Campers will enjoy their time exploring the 250 acres of Wanake’s rolling hills in the gateway to Ohio’s Amish Country.
