Back to School season is time for a fresh start; New school supplies, new bags, new clothes. As you clean out closets, bookshelves and drawers to make room for all the things, start a stash of your gently used books to pass along to someone else!

The Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank agrees! The Northeast Ohio non-profit works to ensure all kids in Greater Cleveland have books to build their own home libraries.
At our Back to School Bash Series in August, you’ll have an opportunity to join their mission!
In 2014, a lack of access to books in Cleveland prompted volunteer activists Judy Payne, Judi Kovach, and others to establish numerous Little Free Libraries near elementary schools. By the fall of 2015, the Cleveland Little Free Library Movement was supporting 60 such libraries and faced a constant need for books. To meet this demand, the founders partnered with an online used bookseller to divert over 100,000 usable children’s books each month from recycling, ensuring these books reached young readers. This initiative led to the founding of the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank in early 2016.
Since its inception, the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank has diversified its book sourcing, with over 60% of its inventory now coming from the community through 22 outdoor collection bins and monthly book drives. The remaining books are acquired through bulk used book purchases and new, diverse books featuring characters of color, as part of their “Books Like Me” campaign. The organization takes pride in its origins and growth, recognizing that its mission continues to evolve.
