Launching this project, the word texture was selected because in 2026 I’m purposely adding depth, new dimensions, and opportunities to my life.
And how did Week 2 go? Well, how does sandpaper feel on your skin? Okay, it wasn’t that bad, but Week 2 of 2026 certainly did create some uncomfortable moments.
Going back to work surrounded me with comfort, cute kids, and amazing adults.
Then, on Tuesday, a text came from the love of my life (who also happens to be my husband) announcing he may be out of a job by June 30. After twenty-five years—and from the company that brought us back to Northeast Ohio—this was the first of the sandpaper rubs.
On Wednesday, I branched out and decided to get a night guard to help with the grinding and gripping of my teeth. Ah, teeth molds. Mushy and a bit uncomfortable, but sometimes we must invest in things to improve our overall health and well-being.
Speaking of which, below is my new experience for the week: Strength Training Class (and yes, I’m heading back Wednesday…after heading to my Week 3 new adventure—Pilates!).
Experience #1: Strength Training Class
Location: I took my class at the West End YMCA located in Willoughby, but I’m betting you can find a class in your area too.
Why it added texture: Texture? Yes, it was interesting. It stretched me and made me sweat. I chose this class as a woman because I’m hearing a lot about the need for total-body weight training workouts. Side note: I was thinking how much I’d rather be watching Gilmore Girls than lifting another weight during this 45-minute experience. BUT yes, it was good for me, and as I write this, I am feeling the effects. No one said adding texture was going to be easy.
Who it’s good for: Known fact—exercise is good for all. But as mentioned above, I’m hearing that strength training is especially important for women as we age.
Takeaway tip: The hardest part of the class—and it was challenging for me—was making the commitment and then following through. It’s easier for me (and lots of us) to put on our walking shoes and find our way to a treadmill, but this definitely provided a new experience (TEXTURE!) and was a good investment in my health. Another tip? Bring your own mat (I’m not sure how often those other mats are cleaned—eek!).
A reminder: Not all textured moments will be comfortable, but I’m rooting for some satin in Week 3.
What texture are you adding to your life this week?
