Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s blimp has been named Wingfoot One.
The newest vessel’s name was chosen from 15,000 names submitted in the online contest open to the public. Goodyear judges formed a panel and selected 10 finalists for the public to vote on and select the winning name.
The winning name was submitted by Akron, Ohio, resident Charlotte White. For her involvement in the contest, White will enjoy a day of activities with the new blimp.
According to a report from Tire Review, White said, “Seventy six years of living in Akron and I never got to ride on the blimp. I’m just thrilled to win the contest. I never thought it could happen. I can’t wait to ride it.”
The other nine finalists will receive a set of tires from Goodyear for their submissions.
The blimp will officially be christened in an August ceremony.
