‘Parents for Healthy Kids’ Offers Free Tools for Improving Health in Your Child’s School

To help parents become educated, empowered and engaged in improving physical activity and nutrition in their children’s schools, Action for Healthy Kids (AHK) and National PTA have teamed up to launch a new initiative, Parents for Healthy Kids, featuring a website, online community, grants and trainings.

Parents for Healthy Kids provides parents and parent-led school groups (such as PTAs) with resources and support to become effective change agents in school health and wellness. Parents and caregivers can find support, inspiration, tools and guidance to help them get involved in and positively impact health initiatives at their children’s school.

At ParentsforHealthyKids.org, parents can:

  • Learn how to engage with school leaders and decision makers.
  • Find ways to help bring more physical activity and healthy eating to the school day.
  • Share opinions, exchange ideas and connect with like-minded parents in a community forum o Be inspired by stories from parents nationwide – and share their own.

The site also features quizzes, inspirational testimonials, a community forum to connect with other parents, live training and workshops, and information on hot topics like physical activity, recess, healthy meals and snacks, fundraising, and more.

Grants will also be provided for school-based health initiatives that include a family engagement component and/or are led by a parent group.
