Be Ready to Start “Momgineering”

- in Parenting

Hi! I’m Kristen Antosh. I’m thrilled to be the newest addition to the Northeast Ohio Parent blogging team! While I’ve written for Northeast Ohio Parent Magazine before (see the links to my previous articles below), this is my first time as an official blogger!

I’m an engineer by trade, a writer by love and a wife and mother by fate. I’m originally from Cincinnati and moved to Northeast Ohio with my husband (also an engineer) seven years ago for job opportunities. As an engineer, I worked in manufacturing in both the automotive and medical industries. About two years after we moved to Northeast Ohio, we welcomed our first child and I was forever changed. I decided to postpone my successful engineering career and start a new challenge as a stay-at-home mom – which I prefer to call “momgineering.”

Being a parent: it’s problem solving, it’s experimenting, it’s researching, it’s being creative, it’s planning, it’s coordination, it’s multitasking, it’s being proactive, it’s putting in countermeasures, it’s teaching, it’s being flexible to spur of the moment changes (sometimes over and over again in the span of 10 minutes), it’s accepting failures and learning from them, and it’s accepting that sometimes there are no answers and you must move everyone forward — all things I used to do in a technical setting.

Naturally with my technical background, I try to incorporate some form of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning in a fun way each day with our young children – through problem solving, crafting, books we read, movies or TV we watch, toys we play with, trips we take, memberships/subscriptions that we have, etc. My goal is to prime their interest and curiosity for learning, which hopefully will build their confidence and prevent them from being intimidated later in school. I also want our children to be good problem solvers in the future.

In 2018, I started my blog Momgineering the Future. I wanted others to feel that they could introduce STEM concepts in a fun way to their young children, as well.

As a blogger for Northeast Ohio Parent, I hope to share some fun ideas to incorporate into your family, too! Please also check out my blog, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for more about me and what I’m up to!

I’m looking forward to “Momgineering” (and for the Dads, “Dadgineering”) our future problem solvers with all of you!
