So how does one become a Winey Mom exactly? Let’s track my evolution.

It starts out in New Jersey. Yup, New Jersey. No jokes and for heaven’s sake DO NOT ask me “What exit?” I WILL roll my eyes at you. And mention something about people who live in glass houses.

My NJ is not the Jersey of that horrible, horrible reality show about the beach.  My New Jersey childhood was filled with summers “down the shore” (not at the beach, not at the sea shore, we go “down the shore”), school day trips to see Broadway shows, Taylor Ham, some of the best deli anywhere and never, ever, ever pumping my own gas.

Yes, we are obsessed with a certain movie that was filmed in Cleveland…..

But despite the wonderful memories, once college rolled around, I headed west to Chicago and the shores of Lake Michigan to Northwestern University, majoring in Theater and Communications and early in my sophomore year, meeting a very cute guy from Cleveland.  I married that guy, making him The Winey Hubby, nearly 30 years ago.  We settled in northeast Ohio and eventually added two Winey Children to the household numbers. (We kept things even: one Winey Son, one Winey Daughter.) Eventually, two Winey Doggies also came into our lives and it’s a good thing they did because THEY did NOT go away to college and leave me.

After 12 years working in Cleveland television news, which is an amazing way to get to know your adopted city, The Winey Mom decided to take some time off of television and concentrate on raising the Winey Kids. It worked too, because those Winey Kids are now a college graduate and a college freshman – each of them very happy and doing very well. The Winey Son graduated from the United States Military Academy and is now a Winey Lieutenant, but he prefers Winey Son and since he can shoot a gun, well, I defer to his wishes. The Winey Daughter is seriously considering a major in communications at Elon University – which does my Winey heart proud. The Winey Hubby, through this all, has been the best – lawyering on and supporting us all. As previously stated, the Winey Doggies are still here. Literally. One is at my feet as I type.

I never really lost my love of writing though, and about three years ago, it became clear to me that the words I wanted to write were just itching to come out of my fingers. I loved wine, I loved being a Mom, and thus the two decided to join together to become The Winey Mom.

I don’t review wine as much as I write about the experiences that surround each glass we sip on. Celebrations, memories, treasured times and plain old everyday events pair nicely with all varietals of wine.

I’m thrilled to be blogging for Northeast Ohio Parent and am so looking forward to sharing my Winey Mom thoughts with everyone!
