The Texture Project – Week 5: Chagrin River Park

- in Uncategorized

There’s a reason why New Year’s resolutions don’t last. Simply put, they’re hard. But here we are—showing up (I see you) and staying committed. The word of the year is “texture,” and the opportunity is to take in—and more importantly—notice the moments that add depth, interest, and awe to life.

Upon the new year, I launched The Texture Project. More than a goal or resolution, it is a way of looking at each day, each week—purposely curating new experiences and opportunities. I started the new year with a sandpaper scrubbing, moved to a polyester blend reflection, and, well, you get the idea… And here we are at week five.

Week 5: The Texture Project
Experience #1: Chagrin River Park
Location: Willoughby, OH

Why it added texture: As a reminder, the weather this last week included subzero temperatures, with a chance of a snowstorm at any given moment. Between school closures, Gilmour Girls (if you need a comfort show to lean into, do it), and a 1,000-piece puzzle put together with neighborhood buddies, I suited up and headed outside. Despite the harsh weather conditions, there were a few moments of temps in the teens and daylight, and I embraced them (reminder: you should too…).

Who it’s good for: Everyone. Not only are there a few miles of trails, there is a medium-sized sledding hill and a nearby firepit, making for—literally—fun for everyone.

Takeaway tip: Sunset is magical. Yes, it was cold, but the colors and desolate trails were decadent. The bonus was the deer who began meandering out on the trails as we watched and waited for a nearby owl to take flight (no luck, but its calls were magical). This park also has real-deal restrooms, pavilions, playgrounds (2), and a beautiful river that runs along all these amenities.

A reminder: In a world of chaos, choose your calm.
