March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and to spread the message of inclusion, Akron Zoo made this video highlighting its friend George the opossum, who is neurodivergent.
George was brought to the Akron Zoo by a rescue center in Georgia (hence his name) after a kind citizen found him walking in circles in their neighborhood. He was diagnosed with several neurological issues which cause George to walk in a veer and limit his spacial awareness.
George is one of the zoo’s animal ambassadors, meaning he spends his days traveling to schools, libraries, nursing homes and more to showcase just how interesting opossums are, and to spread the word on diversity and inclusion.
