The Cleveland Browns are aiming to build on positive on-field momentum as they draw nearer to the 2023 season opener on Sept. 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals — saving their fans plenty of heartache in the process.

Off the field, the Browns are aiming for a different kind of savings: by teaming up with Mentor-based Cardinal Credit Union on a new program, Lil Brownies Savings. Participants and their parents can open a free account and receive a Brownie the Elf debit card; parents, meanwhile, can enable card controls, monitor transaction requests and notifications, activate allowances and payment for grades, and take advantage of budgeting and youth financial education tools.

Aside from those valuable financial literacy opportunities, program participants will be entered to win exclusive team-related perks, such as autograph session access, club seats to home games and more.

“Early education on financial wellness is a critical need today to set young people up for future success,” says Christine Blake, CEO of Cardinal Credit Union. “Financial education has been a passion of ours through the work we have been doing in the community and with local area high schools for more than a decade. Now we are expanding our reach to include elementary and middle-school-aged children with the support of the Cleveland Browns.”

The program announcement is part of Cardinal Credit Union’s new partnership as the official credit union of the Browns. The institution says that as part of that partnership, its members will receive unparalleled access to exclusive programs with the team. Cardinal also provides financial education throughout the community with an integrated financial education program at six area high schools and Lakeland Community College, where Cardinal operates several in-school branches.

“Our partnership with Cardinal Credit Union presents a unique and exciting opportunity to engage with our younger fans across Northeast Ohio through financial education,” said Erica Muhleman, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the Cleveland Browns. “Cardinal Credit Union is passionate about supporting financial well-being and together with the Browns, the Lil Brownies Savings program will bring new and meaningful initiatives that positively impact our community’s youth.”

The Browns continue their preseason schedule on Thursday in Philadelphia against the Eagles before wrapping up the preseason against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on Aug. 26.
