Founded in 1947, Achievement Centers for Children’s Camp Cheerful was Ohio’s first recreational camp for children with disabilities. Today, Camp Cheerful hosts several summer camps on our beautiful 52-acre Camp Cheerful campus in Strongsville.  Our 2026 camp season runs June 8 through August 14 with single week options available.

Cheerful Day Camp provides a traditional camp experience for campers with varying abilities ages 5-22. Our new Camp Buddies program welcomes children and teens to serve as role models for campers with disabilities by working alongside experienced camp counselors.

Our Camp Buddy program has allowed us to be a more inclusive camp, giving campers without disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the fun of camp, while also learning important lessons in empathy, compassion, and understanding,” said Maggie Clautti, Manager of Youth Services and Adapted Sports for Achievement Centers for Children.

Other camps include Sensational Extended School Year (in partnership with school districts for students K-12) and our 5-nights/week Summer Overnight Camp (for campers 16 and older).

Activities are adapted for all campers and include swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, sports and games, and horse barn visits.
