Shining Star CLE is a unique solo-singing competition that gives high school students from eight Northeast Ohio counties – Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit (including home-schooled high school students) – the chance to compete for college scholarships and perform in the renowned Ohio Theatre at Playhouse Square.
Participants will go through three rounds – online video auditions, in-person auditions and semifinals – before The Finals Competition and Performance on Sunday, October 7, 2018, where 10 finalists will compete for the top four spots to win $10,000, $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000 dollars in college scholarships. A panel of judges, comprised of accomplished musical professionals from around the region, along with the audience will choose the order of the top four winners. Monica Robins, Emmy award-winning reporter for WKYC Channel 3, will serve as emcee of the finals competition.
All participants must have a 2019-2022 high school graduation date. Students can easily submit their video audition to shiningstarcle.org from now through July 1, 2018. There is no entry fee and all genres of music are welcomed.
“We believe in creating an enriching experience that focuses on positivity and artistic growth, enabling young people of all backgrounds to have access to a professional level of music development as well as college scholarship opportunities. Our mission is to help develop each qualifying participant, with every step of the process devoted to artistic mentorship,” says Jordan Cooper, Shining Star CLE artistic director.
Sponsored by Montefiore (Beachwood) and The Weils (Chagrin Falls), nonprofit organizations and leaders in senior healthcare, Shining Star CLE is aimed at uplifting and nurturing Northeast Ohio high school students while raising funds for its memory care programs.
