Did you know Cleveland Metroparks Ranger Department is a full-fledged police force with a vehicle fleet, mounted police, K-9 Unit, Dive Team and Detective Bureau? Families can get a hands-on look at law enforcement’s role in protecting, serving and educating park visitors and meet the Rangers at the free Ranger Community Day on Saturday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Edgewater Park in Lakefront Reservation.

See the police equipment the Rangers use to protect and serve all 18 Cleveland Metroparks Reservations and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Hear about the care and training given to the horses in the Mounted Unit, get valuable bicycle safety tips from the Bike Patrol Rangers, and find out how rangers patrol the Park District, even in the remotest of areas, by seeing ranger vehicles up-close. There will be displays from Cleveland Metroparks Aquatics and Fishing Departments, as well as exhibits from Cleveland Fire Department and Cleveland Police Department. There will be hands-on activities for everyone to learn from, play with, touch and see.

“This a great community event and we’re happy to invite park guests to come out and get to know Cleveland Metroparks Rangers a little bit better,” said ranger chief Dan Veloski. “We’re really excited to give park visitors a fun and informative “behind-the-scenes” look at the Ranger Department.”
