Akron area officials and several Rockynol supporters gathered on Tuesday, June 17 to kick off a multi-million dollar project to expand the facility and offer support to the community.
Sam DeShazior, deputy mayor for Economic Development shared a heartwarming story of a lady he met at Rockynol during his first year living in Akron. She had been a flower girl in his grandparent’s wedding in 1914. Staying in touch over the years, Sam felt a warm welcome to the Akron community because of her. Marilyn Keith, Ward 8 Councilwoman, said she appreciated Rockynol for all that it stands for, in “both structural and human foundations, Rockynol sits on a bed of rock.”
Construction should start within a month at the grounds of Rockynol. The facility is expected to bring additional resources into the community, as well as job opportunities to those in the area.
“Rockynol has some of the most caring staff taking care of our residents,” said Dan O’Connor, president of OPRS Communities.
Rockynol will continue to provide a full kitchen, restaurant quality dining and rehabilitation services in a wellness center environment.
