Maple Sugar Days return to Hale Farm & Village

Maple Sugar Days return to Hale Farm & Village

Explore the sweet side of history on historic grounds with 19th century maple sap processing. Guests will enjoy the natural beauty of the Hale Farm maple sugar bush and outdoor demonstrations that include tree tapping and a pioneer-style sugar camp that exhibits the process of boiling sap into syrup. Experience the process from past to present at Hale Farm & Village on March 12, 13, 19, 20 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m

For centuries, the Maple trees on the Hale farm provided sap to be processed and sold or consumed. Guests will experience this history and tradition first hand. C. O. Hale, the grandson of Western Reserve pioneer Jonathan Hale, had a keen interest in tapping the sugar maple trees on this farm. He supervised maple syrup production from his sugaring chair, on display in our Gatehouse Visitor’s Center. The tall chair provided a view of the boiling of sap from the perfect vantage point, high above the steaming evaporation pan.

Also, Trail Light Farms will be onsite with draft horse demonstrations and historic sites will be open to delve into maple sugar and syrup history. Historic crafts and trades demonstrations for glassblowing, blacksmithing, spinning and weaving will occur throughout the day.

The Marketplace at Hale Farm & Village will be open during the event, featuring Ohio made maple products including syrup, candy, sauces and snacks. Handcrafted at Hale items will also be available, along with many other Ohio made and maple sugar season souvenirs.

Also, enjoy the Hale Farm & Village’s Maple Sugar Days and Pancake Breakfast on March 12, 13, 19 and 20, a hearty pancake breakfast that includes pancakes, sausage links, fruit, coffee, juice and milk provided by Acme Fresh Markets. It will be available to eat onsite or carry-out. To make the pancakes even sweeter, guests will be able to try pure Ohio maple Syrup.
