Steve & Kate’s Camp, a San Francisco Bay Area staple since 1980,
is excited to announce the first Ohio location in Shaker Heights!
The camp was founded on the belief that trusting a child helps them build their self-confidence and helps teach them to trust their own judgment. At Steve & Kate’s Camp, kids can express themselves freely.
The counselors not only advocate, but celebrate, children discovering and expressing their true selves by creating an enriching environment and providing a space where children feel included and safe, explained Natalie Ruffin, Steve & Kate’s Camp Director.
“At Steve & Kate’s, kids are welcome to explore our wide variety of activities and take chances on any project or activity they have interest in,” Ruffin said. “Our campers might find themselves in our Tinker lab and creating a fort out of recycled cardboard. This experience allows them to connect with others that have the same interests, regardless of age, and make something magical.”
She explained that this experience ultimately helps prepare campers to tackle the challenges of the ever-changing world with creativity and confidence. “In this process, they will learn to trust their judgement because they are choosing the activity, choosing how to go about it and building confidence along the way,” she said.
Children will create their own camp experience by choosing from a variety of activities in real-time, including stop-motion animation, coding, sewing, baking, maker crafts, recreation, and more. “If a camper is interested in learning how to sew- they can go into our sewing salon, learn how from one of our amazing counselors, and then continue to stay in that space as long as they would like,” she said. “If they are set on making a whole new wardrobe, we aren’t going to stop them–unless they need to take a break for lunch!”
There’s plenty of perks for grown-ups, too! Steve & Kate’s Camp operates on a flexible day-pass system where families can sign up for one day here, 22 there, or pay a flat fee, which covers the entire summer.
Either way, families can use their passes any day this summer–without advanced notice. There are no weekly sessions or commitments required. And if your plans change, they’ll even refund your unused passes automatically at the end of the season.
Ages 5–12 are welcome. Lunch, snacks, and all hours (8 a.m.–6 p.m.) are included.
