This summer, the Greater Cleveland Aquarium is inviting guests to take a closer look at Cleveland’s Cuyahoga River from its family-friendly River Hut thanks to support from Cleveland Clinic Children’s.
Weather permitting, the Cleveland Clinic Children’s River Hut will be open through Labor Day on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The staffed seasonal outpost offers Aquarium-goers, Nautica Queen riders, Cleveland Metroparks Water Taxi passengers and local residents insight into history and ecology of the Cuyahoga River.
“We’ll have a crooked river photo timeline, an Ohio fish matching game, information on the nearby bridges and ships and Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District kits for testing water quality,” says aquarium general manager Tami Brown. “Along with environmental awareness activities, we are adding picnic tables, fish-themed cornhole, a skyline photo opportunity and other reasons to stop and appreciate the boardwalk views.”
In addition to the weekend River Hut and a permanent indoor Ohio Lakes & Rivers gallery, the Aquarium’s nonprofit Splash Fund also focuses on local conservation through its community Adopt-A-Beach cleanups, as well as its partnerships with other parks and educational institutions to ensure the threatened spotted turtle population doesn’t disappear from the Northeast Ohio landscape.
