Audition Period Open for ‘Shining Star CLE’ High School Vocal Competition

Video auditions are being accepted for Shining Star CLE, the inaugural solo-singing competition for high school students.

The competition is free to enter and all genres of music are welcome. Entrants must be high school students with a graduation date between 2018-2021, who live in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Medina or Summit counties (homeschool students are included).

Auditions will remain open through July 1.

A panel of expert judges from around the region will screen the entries and invite up to 300 students to in-person auditions with a team of professional artists and musicians. The top 10 will compete in a professionally staged “Finals Performance” at the Ohio Theatre at Playhouse Square on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. That evening, more than $20,000 in college scholarships will be awarded to the top four contestants.

The first place winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship and the chance to perform with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra at Severance Hall. Other winners include: second place, $5,000 scholarship; third place, $2,500 scholarship; fourth place, $1,000 scholarship. The high school music department of the first place winner will receive $2,500.

To enter, upload a video audition to shiningstarcle.org.

Proceeds of the competition will benefit memory care programs at Montefiore and The Weils, nonprofit organizations specializing in senior healthcare, as well as “in-home” memory care programs that reach the entire Greater Cleveland community.
