Think the Cleveland International Film Festival is just for adults?
Think again. (Though we’ll get to date night ideas, too.)
Film Festival officials have identified seven films in the event’s family films sidebar, ranging from magical (“Puffin Rock and the New Friends”) to adventure (“Adventures in the Land of Asha”). Your kids may also know YouTube “unboxing” superstar Ryan – and he now has a film, too: “Ryan’s World the Movie: Titan Universe Adventure”.
Others include:
- “Camp RicStar,” about a boy named Eric Winter who died at 12 but whose name lives on at a camp where those with mental and physical disabilities can rock out
- “JessZilla,” about a successful female boxer whose career was threatened by a brain tumor diagnosis
- “Story and Pictures By,” about the “wide, wonderful world of children’s picture books”
- “Tony, Shelly and the Magic Light,” an animated film about a sheltered boy with magical powers
The festival also offers two family shorts programs:
- Family Shots Program I [clevelandfilm.org] features seven short films running 92 minutes, and is suitable for all ages, CIFF officials say; and
- Family Shorts II [clevelandfilm.org] features eight short folms and runs 96 minutes, and is recommended for kids age 10 and older, due to subtitles and mature language
“It is important for our Family Films to be inclusive of families with children each year,” says Patrick Shepherd, CIFF Associate Director. “And we are delighted to offer Family Craft Experiences on both Saturday afternoons of the Festival that follow our two Family Shorts Programs.”
Those craft experiences take place on April 6 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and April 13 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Upper Allen Theater lobby.
The festival takes place from April 3-13 at PlayhouseSquare in downtown Cleveland. A full film guide can be found at clevelandfilm.org.
