Cookies for Kids on June 7 to Benefit Cleveland, Akron Food Banks

Cleveland Independents in conjunction with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank present the fourth annual Cookies for Kids, a fundraiser to help feed the children of Northeast Ohio, on June 7 at select member locations.

While many children have access to breakfast and lunch programs during the school year, they rely on Kids Cafes, Summer Feeding and Backpack programs during the summer months when schools are closed. Through the sale of cookies, Cleveland Independents’ efforts help to supplement dollars already budgeted for these programs.

Members will be selling cookies for $2.50 each, with 100 percent of the proceeds donated to the two food banks.

Last year, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank fed over 22,000 children through its summer programs. It expects to provide more than 211,000 meals from its kitchen for its summer feeding sites alone this summer. On average, its kitchen will distribute 8,000 meals a day.

Since its introduction in 2015, Cookies for Kids has raised $8,355 in donations to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank (additional dollars were donated to food banks in surrounding counties) providing more than 33,420 meals.
