Been putting off that summer trip to Great Lakes Science Center? Wait no more: Admission is free to the center on Monday, July 15, to celebrate the 65th birthday of NASA’s logo.
The international known blue and red “meatball” logo was designed in Cleveland, at NASA Glenn Research Center, in 1959. (NASA Glenn was known as Lewis Research Center back then.)
As any good birthday party does, Monday’s festivities at the Science Center will include a cake cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and special NASA-themed activities throughout the day – including presentations from NASA Glenn’s photographers and videographers and on the history of NASA’s insignia, photo ops with Eva the Astronaut, a coloring contest, a performance by the NASA Glenn Band, live science shows and more.
General admission to the center also includes its several hundred exhibits and access to its temporary summer exhibition, TapeScape: International Tape Station. Free admission on Monday is the second to be funded through a generous gift from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Supporting Foundation to present guests with eight total opportunities to experience the museum for free through the end of 2024.
