Leap Day Events Around Northeast Ohio

Celebrating Leap Year with your kids can be a fun and educational experience. As the calendar adds an extra day every four years, it’s an excellent opportunity to teach children about time, calendars, and the Earth’s orbit around the sun. Here are some fun events happing around Northeast Ohio on February 29!

 

February 29

 Leap Day. Celebrate Leap Day with some fun activities! Whose Origami frog will jump the farthest? Sponsored by the Friends of the Bay Village Branch Library. Registration required. 7-8 p.m., Bay Village Branch Library, cuyahogalibrary.org

Leap Day Craft and Story. Ages 2-6 celebrate with a story, craft and a special visit. 9:30 a.m. French Creek Reservation, 4530 Colorado Ave., Sheffield Village, loraincountymetroparks.com

Leap Day Party. Celebrate with crafts, games and more. PreK-5. 6-8 p.m. Westlake Porter Public Library, 27333 Center Ridge Road, westlakelibrary.org

Alice’s Unbirthday Party. Celebrate your unbirthday in classic Alice in Wonderland fashion with tea, cake, and quirky activities. If your birthday falls on Leap Year, even better! For grades 6-12. 3:30-4 p.m., Akron Main Library, 60 South High Street, Akron, akronlibrary.org

After School Leap Day Hike. Join a naturalist for a brisk winter hike celebrating the day that happens nearly every 4 years! Learn about the history behind its creation, why it exists due to the sun’s rotation around the earth, and all of the ways people celebrate it globally. 3:30- 4:30 p.m., Rocky River Reservation, clevelandmetroparks.com

Let’s Talk Leap Day. Join instructor Angelina Verginis for this workshop on Thursday, February 29! Students will make watercolor planets, mixed media solar systems, and sun faces as they learn about Leap Day. Students in sixth through eighth grade are invited to attend this workshop.
