Summer Weekends: Family Events June 18-20 in Northeast Ohio

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are family-friendly events for all ages: take a hike with the kids, go fishing, explore festivals, outdoor Juneteenth celebrations, and other activities.


June 18

Family Flashlight Walk Families with young children: drop in to spot nature in early evening with the help of a flashlight. A naturalist will greet you at the trailhead, then send you on your way along the short, paved Meadow Loop Trail to spot wildlife using eye-shine.  8:30-10 p.m. Summit Metro Parks, Visit here for info.

June 19

Juneteenth Rock Hall Celebration. A group of powerful and inspiring performers, culminating with special performance from Djapo Cultural Arts Institute. The event will be held outside at the Rock Hall, and is free for everyone. Noon to 8 p.m. Visit here for information.

Juneteenth at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. Join the African American Cultural Garden in celebrating the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. The day will feature a re-enactment of the 1865 Juneteenth event, a student essay contest sponsored by the Cleveland Cavaliers, spoken word performances, drill teams, drumming and the Grand March. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit here for information.

Juneteenth in Akron. Learn about all the events happening to celebrate Juneteenth in the Akron area. Visit here 

Juneteenth Blues Fest. Come and enjoy bluesy performances by Audacity For Sale, Hubb’s Groove and experience the wonder of New Orleans-style Second line with Da Land Brass Band. Special guest, Abraham Lincoln will open the program with a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation. 3-7 p.m. Lakeview Park, Lorain. Visit here for info.

Medina County Pizza Palooza. A unique partnership where attendees can enjoy samples of the region’s best pies and vote for their favorite, while learning all about the amazing nonprofit and social work being done in Medina County. Main Street Medina, 39 Public Sq.,

June 19-20

Ohio Free Fishing Days
On June 19 and 20, 2021 all Ohio residents are invited to experience Ohio’s fantastic public fishing opportunities without purchasing a license. All size and bag limits apply during these two days. Visit here for info.

Story Hike.  Join Naturalist Kristin for a story and a short hike in the park. Listen for and search for animals in the wetlands while you read a story about the critters that live in the water and on land. Meet at Monarch Bluff Picnic Area. Ages 6 and older.
