Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) partnered with the nonprofit Special Spaces Cleveland to create an exceptional experience for an 11-year-old child who has cancer and her family.

On Saturday, the Bay Village Branch helped Tessa celebrate her passion for reading by inviting friends, family, volunteers and community members to participate in “Tessa’s Takeover”.

In September,  Tessa Greene, of Bay Village, received a bedroom makeover from Special Spaces Cleveland, a local nonprofit that creates dream bedroom makeovers for children ages 2-19 with cancer. Her new bedroom design is themed with a library castle and cats. Her new bedroom, Tessa also received a set of flowers made from book pages (courtesy of N.Joy Originals) and a certificate from CCPL entitling her to a special day at CCPL’s Bay Village Branch.

During the Saturday event, Tessa curated her own book display in the children’s room of the Bay Village Branch. She also received a Librarian for the Day certificate and sat at the Circulation Desk, working alongside the circulation supervisor. Tessa and her friends and family participated in an Innovation Center program to make personalized pencil pouches;

Additionally, “Tessa’s Takeover” is now featured on Libby, the platform that CCPL uses to offer thousands of eBooks and audiobooks for free to customers. Beginning October 10, this special collection features Tessa’s favorite books.
