Cuyahoga County Public Library is holding a children’s book drive through Monday, January 18 to benefit Reach Out and Read, a nonprofit organization of medical providers who promote early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide.
Donations of new and gently-used children’s picture books and baby board books will be accepted at all branch locations.
The book drive will culminate on Monday, January 18 with a day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy. The library branches will be open from 9 a.m to 9 p.m. on MLK, Jr. Day. Patrons will be invited to visit their local branches to donate new and gently-used children’s books, participate in a special bookmark craft, and write messages of encouragement to young readers in each donated book. The library system needs volunteers to staff tables to help sort book donations at the branches from 1 to 5 p.m. on the holiday.
Cuyahoga County Library is also looking for volunteers to help sort, package and deliver book donations to 19 Reach Out and Read locations in the area on Thursday, January 21. If you are interested in these volunteer opportunities, please contact the library’s volunteer coordinator at 216-749-9400 or email [email protected].
