It’s cold outside, there might be snow on the ground and we just got through a busy holiday season. Is it time to start thinking about summer yet? No, it’s not too early.
According to the “Sawyer Camp Booking Report: 2025 Trends” from the American Camp Association (ACA), parents spend time researching camps and then make purchases at least two to four months before camp begins.
According to the ACA, parents should talk with their children to gauge their child’s readiness.
Some questions to ask:
Consider the day camp experience to prepare them for future overnight camp.
Has your child had positive overnight experiences away from home?
What does your child expect to do at camp? Learning about the camp experience ahead of time allows you to create positive expectations.
Also, think about camp choices. The ACA recommends discussing the distance, (near or far away?); how much time to spend at camp (a few days, week or longer sessions); the camp community (all girls, boys, or co-ed); what type of camps (speciality or traditional).
If you haven’t discussed camp with your child, start now.
Researching options, along with seeking recommendations from family, friends and parents you know in your community or attend a local camp fair.
It’s never too early to start thinking about camp and deciding if it’s the right fit for your child.
