Now that the holiday season is almost over, it’s time to take down the decorations. If you were celebrating Christmas, you might have had a live tree, which is a great tradition for many families across Northeast Ohio. However, where does it go after the fun is over? Instead of throwing it away in the trash, find a place to recycle your tree at these locations around the region.
Cleveland Tree Pick-Up
Through January 29, 2016, the City of Cleveland Division of Waste Collection will pick-up discarded live Christmas trees. Residents should place trees on the curb during normal waste collection days. Trees should be free of all decorations and lights. A separate waste collection truck will pick up the discarded trees and process them for recycling.
In the spring, Cleveland residents, showing proof of residency, may receive one cubic yard of mulch from the recycled Christmas trees at no cost, while supplies last.

Recycling Through Lake Metroparks
Lake Metroparks in Lake County provides Christmas tree recycling. Trees are chipped and the chips then composted or used as mulch within park system.
Tree bins are available at the Lake Metroparks locations listed below through January 15. Please remove all decorations before placing trees in designated bins.

Turn Your Tree into Mulch in Summit
Summit County Metro Parks also helps residents dispose of Christmas tree through January 31.
According to their website, “On average, more than 2,000 trees are collected each year. The resulting mulch is spread out near trailheads or used to create landscaping compost. Officials estimate the park district has chipped more than 80,000 Christmas trees into mulch since the early 1970s.”

Lorain County Recycling
Residents in Lorain County can drop-off their Christmas trees to the Lorain County Collection Center at 540 S. Abbe Rd. Elyria throughout the month of January.
