The Lake County YMCA is pleased to announce support of the Central Ohio YMCA Guardians Against Abuse program, a partnership formed to educate the community about Child Sexual Abuse Prevention.
Guardians Against Abuse first initiative is to get 10,000 Ohioans trained with free online Child Sexual Abuse Prevention education and resources through the Stewards of Children online training, before December 31, 2015.
The Central Ohio Guardians Against Abuse is a partnership between youth serving organizations that are committed to protecting children from the dangers of child sexual abuse within our community. Partner organizations include the Lake County YMCA, Children’s Hospital’s Center for Family Safety and Healing, YWCA, Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus and Action for Children.
“Child sexual abuse is likely the most prevalent health problem children face, with the most serious array of consequences. In fact, 1 in 10 children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. This means that it is highly likely that someone you know and care for has experienced, or is currently experiencing child sexual abuse. Together we can make a difference to end it,” said Sherry Kantz, Child Care Director at the Lake County Y Central branch.
Stewards of Children® is a prevention-training program that teaches adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for individuals concerned about the safety of children, as well as organizations that serve youth.
The online version allows individuals to take the training at any time or place, at a pace of their choosing.
