Monica Slaven, 17, an active volunteer in her community and Ohio Virtual Academy student organized a Holiday toy drive through OHVA’s National Honor Society chapter.
“I have a passion for helping people,” Monica says. “I’ve been wanting to make this toy drive happen for a few years now, and with the help from my teachers this school year, I was able to make it happen.”

“They were extremely happy and thankful for the donations,” she said of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital staff. “I really liked being able help and reach so many kids. That was the best part for me.”
Monica also holds several other offices at OHVA, serving as president of the student council, Agriculture Society, and International Travel Club, as well as vice president of the Choir Club.
Monica will graduate from Ohio Virtual Academy at the top of her class and will be delivering her school’s graduation speech. In the fall, she plans to attend either The Ohio State University or The University of Findlay.
