At Bio-Med Science Academy STEM School, we believe students learn best when they are curious, challenged, connected, and given opportunities to apply what they know.
Bio-Med is a tuition-free, public STEM school serving students in grades K–12 from communities throughout Northeast Ohio. Since opening in 2012, we have been reimagining what school can look like—creating a learning experience built around the needs of students and the world they are preparing to enter.
Here, STEM is more than science, technology, engineering, and math. Students experience an integrated education that brings together the sciences, humanities, arts, technology, communication, creativity, and problem-solving. Learning crosses traditional subject boundaries because the challenges students will encounter in college, careers, and life will too.
Our classrooms are designed around inquiry, Mastery Learning, and real-world problem and project-based experiences. Rather than simply memorizing information for the next test, students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate ideas, collaborate with others, revise their thinking, and use what they learn to solve meaningful problems.
And learning does not stop at the classroom door.
Through partnerships with universities, healthcare organizations, businesses, industries, and community organizations, Bio-Med students connect with practicing professionals and explore possibilities for their futures. Guest experts, field experiences, career exploration, internships, hands-on projects, and authentic learning opportunities help students begin answering an important question: What can I do with what I am learning?
As students progress through their Bio-Med learning journey, we intentionally develop the skills and attributes they will need long after graduation—curiosity, adaptability, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, reflection, resilience, and the confidence to tackle something new.
The world our children will inherit is changing quickly. Their education should prepare them not simply to keep up with that change—but to help shape what comes next.
