Julie Billiart Schools offer an individualized whole-child approach to education. But to our students, it’s simply school.
Beginning in 1954, the Sisters of Notre Dame set the standard in Northeast Ohio for providing the highest level of education and care for children, grades K-8, with special learning and social needs. This tradition continues today as Julie Billiart Schools. With one campus in Lyndhurst and another in Akron, we are empowering students that learn differently.
The “JB Way”
Special education is our focus. Every day . . . all day. It’s what we do. It’s how we do it. It’s who we are. Discover how we’re different from other special education programs.
We maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio of 6:1 in grades K-2 and 8:1 in grades 3-8 so our intervention specialists can adapt their teaching methods to meet the different learning needs of each student. (All teaching staff hold licenses as intervention specialists.)
Flexible Learning Environment to Meet Student’s Learning Needs
Classrooms are designed specifically to meet the learning needs of our students. Flexible seating, sound absorbing carpeting, soothing colors, and muted lighting help students focus on the task at hand while also encouraging movement and peer collaboration.
Nearly 100% of our students receive some sort of financial support through the Jon Peterson, Autism, or EdChoice Scholarships. A tuition forgiveness program is also available for qualifying families through the schools.
Students of all abilities are welcomed, accepted, and loved for their individuality, differences and unique talents that they bring to school each day.
On-site speech, occupational, music, art and behavior therapists blend their services seamlessly with our academic and social curriculum.
Continuity and consistency are critical for our students’ success. We provide families the support they need to ensure a smooth daily transition from school to home. Our communities of parents are also a source of support and strength for one another through organized groups like our Parent Action Committees or through informal gatherings outside the schools.
State-of the-art technology can be seen throughout our campuses. ActivPanel smartboards are used for interactive and multisensory learning. Students have access to their own Chromebooks for classroom and at home assignments. Additionally, iPads and iPods are also available for learning purposes.
