A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence

St. Barnabas Catholic School is a National Blue Ribbon School of excellence with about 500 students ranging from Preschool through Eighth Grade.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:  Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and in partnership with our parish community, we nurture the seeds of faith and learning, cultivate the tree of knowledge and follow the path of Christ while serving others.

At St. Barnabas, we are not just a school, we are a family that fosters lifelong relationships in the spirit of inclusion and diversity, which we believe goes hand-in-hand with traditional learning. This culture is the foundation of our school community where each individual is included and treated equitably. We also take very seriously the responsibility and trust placed in us to foster academic and spiritual development.

Our curriculum challenges and accommodates students of diverse learning abilities, and our faculty strives to cultivate the full academic potential of every student. In addition to core subjects, our expanded course offerings and use of technology serve to enrich and maximize the educational experience of each of our students. St. Barnabas students consistently rank nationally at the highest levels on standardized tests. Annually, 90% of our students build upon their St. Barnabas foundation by continuing their education at a Catholic high school.

We are committed to academic excellence. The curriculum followed at St. Barnabas School is written by the Diocese of Cleveland and based on the Ohio Department of Education state standards. It is an enriched curriculum, infused with Gospel values across all subject areas. A wide variety of co-curricular activities enhance our students’ experiences. These experiences include Academic Challenge, Drama Club, Science Olympiad, Ski Club, Band, Works of Mercy, Robotics Club, Spanish Enrichment, Friendship Club, Engineering Team, and SBS-TV our in-house news station.

Here at St. Barnabas we believe that children learn through experiences, and the earlier we create STEM-based hands-on learning experiences, the better. In our Dream Den, students from PreK-8th grade engage in projects gaining valuable experiences in critical thinking, problem solving, engineering processes, creative design, communication, and collaboration in a technology-rich environment. STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Math.  We strive to integrate these subjects into everything we do. Project-based learning is often used to achieve this goal. Our robust science program and state-of-the art science lab enable students across the grades to learn in a hands-on environment. Highlights of this program for older students include science competitions, programming and robotics which focuses on engineering. Students will also use a variety of technology tools and devices such as 1:1 Chromebooks, 3D Printers, Raspberry Pis, Sphero and Lego Robotics, Kodable, and numerous other software programs.

We are a family, fostering lifelong relationships and a spirit of loyalty and pride. We are dedicated to the spiritual, academic, social, physical and emotional development of all students. We value the importance and need for additional activities beyond the classroom. St. Barnabas has something for everyone with a wide variety of extracurricular activities, athletic teams and pep rallies in the fall, winter and spring, academic competition teams, spirit days, school-wide retreats, community service opportunities and leadership development programs, all intended to foster social development and make lasting memories and friendships. Our school spirit is strong, and with our clubs, teams and activities, we provide an outlet for many interests.

Our on-site Auxiliary Staff includes a Speech Therapist, Intervention Specialist, Title 1 Specialist and School Psychologist. They blend their talents and services seamlessly with our academic and social curriculum. Every teacher has an aid and we pride ourselves on having smaller class sizes and a low student to teacher ratio. We hold dear our most important commodity…Our Students. Our principal, Mrs. Erin Faetanini is committed to the concept of focused forward thinking. Part of that commitment includes our annual school fundraiser, The St. Barnabas School Ignite Gala, which allows us the opportunity to make many facility upgrades and improvements to the campus.  Last year’s Ignite Gala raised over $170,000.00, making it the largest fundraiser in the school’s history. The goal for the fundraiser was to modernize and revamp the classrooms by creating a more collaborative and up-to-date learning environment for all learning styles.  Proceeds from last year’s gala were used to update the classrooms by installing new LED lighting, new flooring, lockers, paint, flexible seating options and most exciting air conditioning units for each classroom. sbcatholicschool.com/2019IgniteGala.aspx

St. Barnabas also offers “Wrap Around School Services” to Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten, in addition to our regular extended care. We offer Extended Day Care in an early childhood setting from 7:00 AM- 6:00 PM, M – F following the school schedule, as well as speech and language services. The “wrap around” label refers to the fact that the services are intended to wrap… the settings of home, school and community.  It is family centered and in main support of working parents.

St. Barnabas School is a special place! Come experience the “St. Barnabas Difference”.
