12 At-Home Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is right around the corner — Sunday, May 10 — and while it may look a little different this year, there are many ways to celebrate mom, grandma and other female figures in your life from the comfort of your own home. Check below for a dozen ideas to help you start planning.

1. Coloring Pages

2. Get Outside
If your family is growing tired of walks in the neighborhood, load into the car and go for a walk, hike or bike ride at an area park. (Be sure to practice safe social distancing and check beforehand for special hours or instructions.)

3. Handmade Cards
Fold paper or card stock in half and have each child create a card with their own special message. Click here to download a colorful version on which your kids can add drawings or a family photograph, courtesy of First & Main.

4. Mom Picks the Fun
Plan a family movie or game night where mom gets to pick her favorite snacks, films and games.

5. Order Dinner
Give mom a break from the kitchen and order carry-out for the family from a local restaurant. Click here for 30 options of local eateries offering carry-out and delivery.

6. Get Crafty
Flex your family’s finest DIY skills and enjoy a craft-ernoon with inspiration from Pinterest. Check out Northeast Ohio Parent’s “Mother’s Day Gift & Craft Ideas” board for inspiration.

7. Bring Home Brunch
Kick breakfast in bed up a notch with a delicious carry-out brunch. For example, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, located at Pinecrest in Orange Village, offers Mother’s Day Feast packages for pick-up and partial cooking at home (instructions included). Pre-order at firebirdsrestaurants.olo.com before 8 p.m. on May 6. Pick up Saturday, May 9 from noon-5 p.m. or Sunday, May 10 from 8 a.m.-noon.

8. Plan a Picnic
Have a picnic in your yard — or on the living room floor, if Mother Nature isn’t cooperating — with tasty carry-out from a local restaurant or fresh, prepared foods from the grocery store

9. The Gift of Shopping
Many retailers are closed right now, but you can still give the gift of shopping by purchasing a gift card to a local boutique or shopping destination. You’d be supporting a local business and letting mom pick out something for herself, whether that’s online now or in-person once stores open back up. Click here for some suggestions.

10. Satisfy a Sweet Tooth
Bake up some tasty homemade treats in the kitchen or go all-out and grab some decadent delights, like an ice cream cake and chocolates from Cold Stone Creamery & Rocky Mountain Chocolates.

11. Grow Some Fun
The health benefits to gardening are endless — increased physical and outdoor activity, as well as reduced stress and healthier eating, just to name a few. Get the whole family involved and plant a garden in your yard.
