Mr. Neil Beck

Neal Walton Beck, born January 17, 1932, has dedicated his life to service, community and helping others. Neal is a Mason and maintains more than 72 years of continuous service. Neal’s journey with The Salvation Army began while helping care for his mother-in-law, who was deeply devoted to ensuring the bells continued ringing each holiday season. Wanting to support her efforts, Neal joined her in volunteering around the Strongsville area near the mall. Even after her passing and his later move to Medina, Neal continued driving back to Strongsville to make sure the bells were still ringing and the tradition of helping others continued.

Volunteers Ringing the Kettle Bell

In 2007, Neal began volunteering with the Medina Salvation Army, where he faithfully served ever since. When asked what keeps him ringing bells year after year, Neal simply says he stays focused on the good work The Salvation Army does and the countless people it helps during the cold winter months and all year long Though the long hours and cold weather may leave him sore each season, he smiles knowing he helped make life a little easier for others in need.

In the past 18 years that he has volunteered in Medina, Neal has spent over 1,000 hours ringing the iconic kettle bell, raised over $75,000 to help neighbors in need, met hundreds of people who stop to talk to him, and has shared thousands of smiles as he greets shoppers at Beuhler’s in Medina.

If you would like to give just a few hours of your time, you can help make Christmas a little brighter for a family, a neighbor, or someone who is struggling. More importantly, you can remind someone that they are seen, valued, and not alone. We hope you’ll consider giving your time this Christmas. Your service will make a difference. Your presence will bring hope.
