Mentor Library’s Lake Branch has New Book Club for Kids

The new Carried Away Book Club at Mentor Public Library’s Lake Branch is different from most book clubs.

First of all, it’s for kids. Any child from age four to 11 can participate at their own level.

Second, there are no meetings. Instead, kids are encouraged to read at their own pace.

Finally, the kids get to pick their own books.

Each month, the Lake Branch will display books based on a theme for a range of reading levels. January’s theme is Winter and February’s theme is Puppy Love, celebrating Valentine’s Day and all things canine.

Inside these books, kids and their parents will find a sheet of paper with suggested activities, discussion questions, and an art opportunity. Younger children are invited to complete their activity sheets with an adult.

Also, kids are encouraged to bring their art projects back to Lake Branch when they’re finished. The works of art will be displayed in the children’s area for everyone to see.

“We hope that our new book club will encourage children to read and also give kids a fun chance to talk about what they read with friends, family and other kids,” says library associate Ragan Snead who created the new book club.
