Northeast Ohio Parent Magazine Wins Editorial, Design, Digital Awards

Northeast Ohio Parent Publisher Brad Mitchell and Editor Angela Gartner at the PMA Design & Editorial Awards competition.

Northeast Ohio Parent magazine was awarded for its editorial content, design and digital offerings at the Parenting Media Association’s (PMA) convention and awards ceremony, which took place March 2 in St. Petersburg, Fla.


“It’s tremendous to see our design and edit team rewarded for their hard work and creativity on a national level,” said Brad Mitchell, publisher of Northeast Ohio Parent and owner of Mitchell Media LLC. “I’m very proud of what they have accomplished and we look forward to continuing to provide a great magazine and digital experience for our loyal fans.”


Northeast Ohio Parent earned one gold award, two silver awards, and four bronze awards for the following categories:


Table of Contents — Gold


Overall Design — Silver


Best Newsletter — Silver

Northeast Ohio Parent was honored for its twice-weekly email newsletters, which feature local news, parenting topics, family-friendly events and more.


Briefs/Short Stuff — Bronze

The magazine won for its Worth Noting section, a two-page monthly comprehensive mix of local news, health information, event previews and awareness topics.

April 2017: Baby Issue

The PMA, a non-profit representing the family media market since 1988, received 560 entries for 2017 magazine issues and digital products. Prof. Reuben Stern of the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism oversaw the judging. In sum, 148 awards were given in editorial categories, 84 in design categories, 23 awards for Ancillary Publications, 19 awards in the Digital Media space and 29 for General Excellence.

“Our awards recognize the best work done in our industry,” said PMA President Mary Cox. “Our member publications engage with families throughout the United States, Canada and Australia, be it through print, websites, email, social media and events. Our collective goal is to making parenting easier — after all, it’s the most important job in the world — and even more of a fun ride.”
