Think you’ve done some embarrassing things in holidays past? You’re not alone. Find some camaraderie — and some laughs — with these tales submitted last month by our Facebook followers.

Brittany: When I was little I loved to play with the Nativity Scene figures my mom would put out. One year, I decided to incorporate my own figures into the scene. When my mom looked I had placed ET in the manger where baby Jesus is supposed to lay. ?? She thought it was so cute that to this day we have ET somewhere in the Nativity Scene. Phone home ?

Rachel: Jonathan poked his eye out bringing in the Christmas tree. It happened TWO YEARS in a row. He now wears safety goggles when wrangling any Christmas trees. It was pretty terrible for him when it happened, but we laugh about it now. That blue spruce is deadly lol.

Crystal: Christopher I’ll never forget the year my grandma had us waiting all day to eat and kept saying the red thing didn’t pop on the turkey wasn’t ready…when someone else finally checked she never turned the oven on??? she hasn’t gotten any better at cooking since.

Carrie: Went to Ikea to grab stuff and some cinnamon rolls for Thanksgiving morning since the oven would be occupied. My mother in law was holding them and set them down. We all get in and start driving to hear something on the roof. Stop at the light and next thing you see is the cinnamon rolls slipping off the roof of our car. Needless to say we won’t let her live it down and remind her every year.

Lemonia: One year my mother-in-law got sick and canceled Christmas dinner last minute. We didn’t have anything prepped or thawed to cook. The only place open by us was a Chinese restaurant. So we had a full Chinese meal and it always reminds of the scene right out of “A Christmas Story.” ?

Lesley: When my husband was a child his step dad bought a really expensive TV for Christmas. They were all dancing around in excitement the tv after they opened it. His mom finally realized the dog pooped on the floor near the gift and they were tracking it all around the carpet ?

Robin: Probably around 60 years ago…… we ‘little ones’ of the 11 kids tried to sneak downstairs very early Christmas morning to see what Santa had left. Just as we hit the bottom of the stairs and looked around the corner we jumped back and ran back to bed because Santa was standing right there! Hours later when we were allowed to come down we realized what we had seen was an almost life sized blown up weighted down Santa punching bag that had been meant as a gift for one of the boys. Nope, we never told mom and dad!

Nancy: One year my grandma gave me silk underwear for Christmas. I was maybe 12. After that I will never give underwear as a Christmas gift. Lol P.S. they were granny panties??????

Faith: I’ll never stop hearing about how my brother and I decided to decorate the Christmas tree by ourselves early on morning when we were kids. My mom said she walked down and found us with big smiles on our faces and smashed glass ornaments all over the floor.

Ashley: I was cutting turkey and flung it and gravy onto my Grandmother’s blouse. She didn’t notice, but my brothers sure did. I couldn’t even make eye contact with them the rest of the meal. We didn’t tell her! ?‍♀️

Becky: Every year on Christmas eve we have our brothers friend come over dressed as Santa. The littles love it so much because “Santa” brings them Christmas jammies. Last year he walked in the door and the two oldest asked “Why is uncle Danny dressed up like Santa?” We all just looked at each other scrambling for an answer. Needless to say, uncle Danny will not be playing Santa anymore. It gave us all a good laugh!

Rebecca: The Christmas our dog ate two blueberry pies off the kitchen table. Or the next Christmas when the same dog ate half of our meat and cheese plate off same kitchen table ?

Stephanie: My uncle, God rest his soul, used to unwrap all his gifts so perfectly. Using a knife so he could save the paper. It took him usually minutes to unwrap one gift. It drove my dad nuts. So each year my brother and i would purposely wrap my uncles gifts with several layers and sometimes even several boxes just to see how my dad would get having to wait for my uncle to unwrap.

Sarah: We were hosting our first Christmas at our new house. The lock for our bathroom stuck at times so we told everyone not to lock the door… well… my uncle locked the door and got stuck. The bathroom is on the second floor so we had to get a ladder and hand him a tool through the window to take the door off the hinge to get out lol.

Lisa: When my daughter was little (4ish) she kept taking baby Jesus from the nativity and putting him in her Barbie car to drive him around. ??

Jeanette: After middle school basketball practice, I once was so hungry I ate a whole pan of sweet potatoes that my mom was pre-making for the holidays. I haven’t been able to eat them since and my family loves to tease me on the holidays when the sweet potatoes go around.

Karen: We have always loved the song “Grandma got Run Over by a Reindeer.” One year on Christmas Eve, on her way home from our house, grandma really did get hit by a deer. She called to tell us what had just happened to her. But she was laughing so hard we could barley make out what she was saying. We still crack up every time we talk about it. She was not hurt but the car was not so lucky.

Alicia: When I was a kid, I was sitting on the armrest of the couch that was sitting next to our Christmas tree. I fell off and into the tree, crushing a ceramic ornament with my butt with my crash landing. It ended up cutting my butt and I have a tiny scar! I’m still known as Ornament Butt.
