Causes & Treatment of Infant Hearing Loss

Infant hearing loss affects approximately 2-3 out of 1,000 live births. Conductive hearing loss occurs when sound is not conducted through the outer or middle ear properly. Sensorineural hearing loss occurs when there is damage to the inner ear or the auditory nerve. Mixed hearing loss is a combination of both. The goal for every child with hearing loss is to prevent or minimize potential delays in development.
