Dr. Roopa Thakur, a pediatrician with Cleveland Clinic Children’s, shares with Northeast Ohio Parent about how lead poisoning can impact any home and the risk increases during the summer months.
She says, in Ohio, one of the major contributors is lead based paint in homes, which are built before 1978.
Family members can be exposed due to occupation, contaminated soil around homes, or home renovations that often take place in the summer months.
As kids get older, developmental such as learning difficulties, ADHD, bone and gastrointestinal issues can develop due to lead poisoning.
