Starting Tuesday, March 30, Mentor Public Library will have special guests – little chicken eggs that are getting ready to hatch – in the children’s department at its Main Branch. The library will have an incubator set up and families may even get to see the eggs as they hatch.

The eggs are expected to hatch by April 26. Once the eggs are almost ready, you’ll also be able to watch the Hatch Cam on the library’s Twitch channel, twitch.tv/mentorpubliclibrary. You can even suggest what the library should name its chicks at www.mentorpl.org/catchthehatch. After hatching, the chicks will live at the library for a week before heading onto their forever home.

Additionally, families can learn all about chicks and eggs during an online program the library is hosting with Jess Nestor from Meyer Hatchery at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 8. Nestor will talk about the process of chicken-egg hatching and answer any questions kids may have about what comes first.

The program will be hosted via Zoom. Register online to get the Zoom link at mentorpl.org or by calling the library at 440-255-8811 ext. 220.
