The Lake County YMCA is pleased to announce its newest collaboration with the Willoughby-Eastlake School District and the City of Willoughby as the development of Union Village in Willoughby continues to make progress toward opening in 2019.
Union Village will have both individual and shared spaces. There will be two indoor pools – the Y’s recreational and the school’s competitive pool – an indoor field house with a walking/jogging track, as well as school classrooms and common areas for collaborative spaces after school hours.
The Lake County YMCA Executive Director and CEO Richard Bennett commented, “We know collaboration is key to building stronger communities. Every day the Y supports kids, adults, seniors and families with programs that protect, teach, connect, heal, nourish and encourage. Union Village will not only enhance our Y’s ability to improve community wellness goals, but also serve our community better by providing education and recreational spaces for students and residents of western Lake County.”
In the new West End Y lobby there will be space for teens to gather, do homework or socialize in a safe and inclusive environment. There also will be space for parents to wait and watch their family members participate in classes or workout while children are in the child watch area.
The New West End Y will feature two first floor multipurpose studios as well as a fully accessible; second story Wellness Center with state-of-the-art strength and cardio equipment and exercise studios. The new facility also will have co-ed steam and sauna rooms, the Y’s warm-water pool which offers lap lanes, and instructional space and a splash and play area for young children and families.
“We understand the growing needs of our Willoughby community and West End Y members and want to foster stronger community connections. The new West End Y/Union Village will offer many new benefits for our members and allow us to be a place of possibility and promise for all moving forward into the future,” added Bennett.
