Western Reserve Playhouse Accepting Applications for Young Artists’ Playwright Festival

Western Reserve Playhouse Accepting Applications for Young Artists’ Playwright Festival

The Young Artists’ Playwright Festival, scheduled for Oct. 25, 2020, is a one-act competition for young playwrights that will take place at Western Reserve Playhouse, with support from the Ohio Arts Council Artie Grant. Applications are being accepted now through Aug. 1, 2020.

The 10 plays selected for the festival will be produced and performed during the event. While Western Reserve Playhouse Company members will grace the stage to perform the works, WRP will look for youth to direct, design and help promote the festival.

Each play and youth production staff selected will have the opportunity to be mentored with professionals in their fields to make this a unique experience for all involved!

Entry Guidelines

Each author or group may submit one play only, in each category: Solo Playwright and Group Playwright

Each category will be broken down into these age brackets: 5-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-19

Plays must be unpublished, non-musical one-acts not exceeding 10 minutes in length. The submitted play should not be committed to publication with another company or otherwise encumbered.

Plays may be written by a solo writer or a group. For group play submissions, all members of the group MUST be in the same age bracket for the entry to be valid.

While there are no limitations as to genre or subject matter, plays should be suitable for school aged audiences. Plays must have between two and 10 characters.
