Libraries may be closed as part of Gov. DeWine’s stay-at-home order, but many in the greater Cleveland/Akron area continue to offer digital programming as usual — and some have added more offerings or made it possible to apply for library cards online.
Look to your local libraries for the following online resources for learning.
Akron-Summit County Public Library
Offers 24/7 access to thousands of digital ebooks and audiobooks. You can borrow them, instantly, for free, using just the device in your hand.
Cleveland Public Library
Digital and streaming services include e-books, audiobooks, movies and music. CPL has compiled a list of resources and materials to help students maintain their reading skills and prepare for state assessment tests while schools are closed. It also has films and television programming through Kanopy. The library also recommends utilizing its database filled with thousands of e-books, magazines, audiobooks, and music. On March 31, CPL kicked off Virtual Storytime on its digital platforms — website, Facebook and YouTube. Library staff, elected officials, journalists and other celebrities will read an assortment of children’s books selected by the Library’s Youth Services Department.
Cuyahoga Falls Library
The digital collection is available 24/7, with a vast collection of eBooks, eMagazines, streaming videos, music and television shows, and research tools for online learning. Tumblebooks are available as online storytime. The library also has a new mobile app.

Geauga County Public Library
New patrons can sign up for an eCard, which will grant access to all of the library’s digital offerings during the closure. Patrons can choose from a wide variety of e-books, audio books, music, movies, TV and digital magazines that GCPL has to offer. Hoopla, Libby, Overdrive and a large selection of resources cover dozens of subjects.
Kent Free Library
Digital resources remain available 24/7 with your library card: Hoopla, Kanopy, Ohio Digital Library, RB Digital Magazines and Freegal Music.
Lakewood Public Library
The library has partnered with Ohio Digital Library, Hoopla Digital, Tumble Books and TumbleMath to offer thousands of ebooks, audiobooks, movies and music titles — all without late fees and using only your library card number.
Lorain Public Library System
The eLibrary collection offers LPLS cardholders the freedom to download and/or stream books, movies, music, magazines and more at no charge, from wherever you are. Offerings include ABC Mouse, Audio Book Cloud, BiblioBoard, Hoopla, Kanopy, Kids InfoBits, OverDrive and much more.
Medina County District Library
Access library services digitally: mcdl.info/download provides eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, movies and music; and mcdl.info/onlinelearning will provide research and learning tools. Apply for an eCard, which offers access to electronic content only, at mcdl.info/card.
Mentor Public Library
Ebooks, audiobooks, streaming music, videos and more are available online for free with a Mentor Public Library card. The library also offers Flipster for online editions of magazines, and Lynda and Niche Academy for online learning. MPL’s YouTube channel offers hundreds of videos, including author interviews and dozens of library talks that can be watched in their entirety.
Online services are available for cardholders, including the library’s collection of digital materials such as eBooks, eMagazines, downloadable audiobooks, and streaming movies, music, and television shows. It also has online learning tools like Lynda.com, Mango Languages, Creativebug and more.
Westlake Porter Public Library
WPPL will be live streaming storytimes on Facebook Live, YouTube and Twitter (Periscope) on Mondays through Fridays, March 23-April 3 at 11 a.m. Cardholders can check the downloadable and streaming services, as well as databases and websites that provide remote learning. Online registration now delivers a WPPL card number which will work immediately with all of the library’s digital platforms.
Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library
Access digital assets like Overdrive (eBooks and audiobooks), Hoopla (movies, music, audiobooks and graphic novels), and Kanopy (documentaries, classics and Indie films). Children’s resources include Tumblebooks, Sesame Street eBooks and ABC Mouse.
