Northeast Ohio Parent magazine took top honors for its editorial content and design at the Parenting Media Association’s (PMA) convention and awards ceremony, which took place March 4 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Northeast Ohio Parent earned four Gold Awards at the annual event.
On the editorial side, the magazine won the “Briefs/Short Stuff” category for its Worth Noting section, a two-page monthly comprehensive mix of local news, health information, event previews and awareness topics.
In design, Northeast Ohio Parent earned Gold Awards for the following categories: “Front Cover” for Bundle of Joy, December 2015; “Front Cover Illustration” for Super Moms and Dads, November 2016; and “Featured Layout” for Veg Out, June 2016.
“I am thrilled and humbled to see our team honored with national recognition for their editorial and design efforts,” said Brad Mitchell, publisher of Northeast Ohio Parent and owner of Mitchell Media LLC. “To receive four first place awards goes way beyond my expectations. I hope we can continue to sharpen our game and bring exceptional, relevant content with captivating design to our local audience.”
PMA, a national trade organization for parenting media companies across the U.S., serves regional magazines, newsletters and websites. The association received 548 entries for 2016 magazine issues and digital products. Professor Reuben Stern of the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism oversaw the judging.
Northeast Ohio Parent would like to thank its staffers and freelancers who were recognized, including Kim Stahnke, photographer; designer Sherry Lundberg; editor Angela Gartner; managing/digital editor Denise Koeth; event manager Alexis White; and freelance writers Tricia Chaves, Beth Bennett and Ashley Weingart.
