Lukas Hunter, a 16-year-old Wooster resident, and his parents have always gone a bit over the top with their Halloween decorations.
As their haunted walkthrough at their home in Wooster grew, they heard consistent feedback from neighbors, fellow Wooster residents and other visitors that they should charge admission to defray some of the cost of the setup. But Lukas had something else in mind.
This year’s walkthrough has grown to over 60 animatronics and 14 scare actors, along with various inflatables and large props. And rather than collect admission, the Hunters instead are seeking donations – to benefit a cause near and dear to the family.
Donations at this year’s aptly named A Haunt For Hospice will benefit Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare, a Wooster facility that cared for Lukas’ grandma as she was undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. As his grandmother’s health insurance no longer covered hospice care, donations from the community allowed her to stay at the facility.
A Haunt For Hospice is Lukas’ way of giving back. He has a goal of raising $5,000 for Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare.
The event will take place on Oct. 27 and Oct. 28 from 7-10:30 p.m. at 2960 Mellon Circle in Wooster. Food trucks such as Oma Gourd (Friday) and Marrs Café (Saturday) will be on hand.
