Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise: Fall is the most fashionable time of the year — especially for all of us here in Northeast Ohio. On Sept. 1, summer was over in the fashion world and then, BAM…ankle boots, scarves, and army jackets were everywhere.
Now, I’m no fashion expert — I just love fashion and spend a good amount of time on Pinterest checking out what’s hot this season. Oh, and I have a teenage daughter, so let’s just say I’ve been schooled once or twice and she keeps me on my toes.
Since I’m a working mama, I get that it’s hard to keep up with everything. What’s hot, what’s not, and let’s not forget what’s comfortable. You get to a certain age in life when you say, “OK, flats are amazing. I think I’ll just live in my yoga pants. Could I pull off wearing my slippers to work?”
Ha! Right? Ok, I gotta draw the line there, but comfort is in. Finally.
One of the newest trends that I love is wearing sneakers with dresses or pencil skirts. I’m serious. It’s so cute. Whoever started this trend, thank you.
Now, because I like to keep things simple — and I know you likely do as well — I’m sharing with you a few little simple trends for this fall.
Statement Shirts and the Color Red
This one is a double bonus. Red is hot this season and better than ever. Plus, this shirt says it all. Now, what’s really fun is to pair t-shirts like this or plain ones with statement necklaces. They really dress-up t-shirts and give them that extra pop. Mix and match your costume jewelry with tees you have at home.
Suede and Plaid
Suede is everywhere: skirts, leggings, tanks, etc. It’s so cute and so fall. I paired a suede tank with a long plaid shirt, plus a tassel necklace (really popular right now) for a nice weekend fall look!
Because you can never have too many scarves right? Well, this is a bit different. It’s a wrap, it’s a shawl, it’s a poncho, it’s a scarf, it’s all the above. It’s literally the size of a throw blanket, but so versatile. A blanket scarf is an accessory that you can belt, wrap, or wear to make any outfit of the day cozier. Don’t let the size intimidate you. To help you with ideas, I’ve created a tutorial on “How To Wear Blanket Scarves” that you can find on my Facebook page (@SaraCarnes).
