From local libraries to major attractions, the holidays are in full swing in the Greater Cleveland area. Bundle up your family this weekend and savor the season at these great local events.

Dec. 9

During the Akron Symphony Orchestra’s annual Home for the Holidays concert, the orchestra will be joined by a variety of performers from throughout the community for a selection of holiday favorites, inspirational songs and traditional carols.

Kids ages 6-10 will love ending their week with The Fine Arts Association’s holiday gift making workshop, which includes a pizza dinner. It also doubles as a chance for parents to finish up holiday shopping or enjoy a date night.

Dec. 9-11

Deck the Hall continues at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. See the estate illuminated inside and out with over 900,000 lights, a fantastic outdoor light show animated to music, and Gingerbread Land.

Holiday Lantern Tours run all month long at Hale Farm. Take a charming lantern-lit tour of the village and visit historic houses delightfully decorated for the season.

Take a holiday-themed tour of Cleveland on Lolly the Trolley during the Silver Bells CLE Tour, which runs through Dec. 23.

Sub Zero Mission, with help from the staff of the Holiday Inn and Cougar 93.7 FM, will collect new and gently used coats, hats, gloves, boots and sleeping bags to deliver to the homeless in Northeast Ohio during its Stuff the Bus event. The collection event held in Mentor will include refreshments, prizes and visits with Santa.

Dec. 10
Discover the wonders of the season on a magical hike, “Ho Ho Hi Hiking with Santa and Buddy the Elf,” that kicks off at the Geauga Park District’s West Woods Nature Center.

Children in grades 2-4 can enjoy painting a holiday pottery bowl with Hands On Pottery at Cuyahoga County Public Library’s Orange Branch from 11 a.m. to noon.

Santa’s Wild Workshop in the Woods at Wildwood Cultural Center, designed to fit the needs of children with sensory or developmental disabilities, lets children make a toy with the elves, help Mrs. Claus decorate cookies, ride the Wildwood Express, and visit with Santa Claus.

Dec. 11
Pack lunches for the homeless, wrap presents, donate blood, and create vests and hats for others during Chanukah Mitzvah Day at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple in Beachwood.

Bring your four-legged family members to have their picture taken with Santa Claus during Summit Mall’s Pet Photo Night with Santa.
