The Downtown Akron Passport is good for admission to many attractions and events in the city from now until December 2017, including First Night Akron 2017, the 21st annual family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration.

Earlier this month, Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School hosted its third annual Early Childhood Literacy Event featuring the work of author Eric Carle. The event focused on the importance of reading to young children and the impact on future literacy and learning.

Cuyahoga County Public Library’s 2016 Great Books for Kids features 100 librarian-recommended, recently published books for kids ages birth through 18. A portion of the proceeds from purchased books helps to support the library system; in addition, every book featured also is available to borrow from CCPL.

Cleveland is one of nine cities across the country that was selected by the National Park Foundation to serve as a focus city for the Every Kid in a Park Program, which gives fourth grade students, and those accompanying them, free access to more than 2,000 federally managed lands and waters.

More than 300 people are needed to greet guests, check admission buttons, introduce performers, assist with hands-on activities, track attendance and serve as bus hosts at the 21st annual First Night Akron, the celebration that rings in the new year and showcases arts and entertainment to the community. Volunteers are admitted free to all performances and sites before or after a shift, and friends, families, couples and groups are encouraged to volunteer together.
